You've Got A Friend

When your down and troubled and you need some love and care
And nothin, oh nothin is goin right;
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night...

What a bright night it was Saturday! As a birthday gift my son Evan took me to see two of my verymostfavoriteintheentireuniverseandeternity people...legends really...
CAROLE KING and JAMES TAYLOR! LIVE at the HOLLYWOOD BOWL! TOGETHER!!! TROUBADOUR REUNION TOUR!

It was one of the most incredible nights of live music I have ever experienced.
As JT and CK stepped on the stage my eyes filled with tears and when my ears heard the first notes on the ivories and strings, the sound resonated deep into my heart.

A friend described Carole King as 'elegant' with her gray curls and James as 'the guy next door'. Just a couple of friends of mine I replied.

I have LOVED these two musicians for most of my life. In fact, my first ever concert was in 1973 at the Shrine Auditorium. James Taylor. One Man Dog Tour. My second ever concert (yes, we called them 'concerts' back then...you call them 'shows' today)1974 at the Great Western Forum. Carole King. Tapestry Tour.

To see them together on the same stage singing the same songs together (did I mention they were there TOGETHER?) was almost more than I could take! I cried through so many of the songs and joined CK and JT in singing even more!

Before the concert, we picnicked on the curb, enjoyed wine and each others company and people watched. Once inside the bowl we discovered we had incredible seats and of course we were surrounded by like minded CK/JT fans. But THE best part of the evening for me was being there with Evan and sharing a part of my youth with my son.

Thank you Evan for one of the most memorable nights of my life. Thank you for sharing it with me. I love you!

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come runnin - to see you again
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, all you have to do is call
And I'll be there yes I will.
You've Got A Friend.
